Statement from CERCI Chair Chief Kenneth Corey (NYPD, Ret.), Regarding AT&T Data Breach

“The newly disclosed data breach suffered by AT&T customers is yet more evidence that the 4.9 GHz spectrum band should remain in the hands of state and local users and not be transferred to AT&T’s network. Public safety users need and deserve security when it comes to their communications networks. The 4.9 GHz band currently provides a mechanism to ensure state and local users can protect their own networks. If they lost control of the band, that would be taken away. Much like the outage that occurred earlier this year, there are serious questions about this data breach that must be addressed.”
